Fireplace. Check.

One of the 'more pressing indoor needs' I was talking about in an earlier post, was having a fireplace installed in the lounge. When we bought our house a year ago, one of the things it didn't have was a fireplace.

The lounge. Before.
It does have heat pumps (air conditioners), but we soon discovered that one heat pump does not effectively heat up an entire open-plan lounge/dining room/kitchen/tv room. Yes, it took the edge off this winter, but it certainly didn't make the big room feel comfortably toasty and warm. Also, the lounge didn't have a focal point and it subsequently became an unpopular, low traffic room. Not the kind of place that anyone gravitated towards.

Summer time is a different story because when all the windows are flung open, it feels as if you're part of the outside world and the views are gorgeous. Come winter, however, when those windows are closed, and the outside world is grey and wet, the room becomes an empty shell, desperately in need of a fireplace to draw you in and keep you warm.

So, that's what we did. We got a fireplace.

The lounge. After.

Now I just need to find a gorgeous picture or painting for above that fireplace. And as you can see, I'm still in the process of decorating and filling the shelves with all my goodies...
