Pretty Puhoi

A few weeks ago we drove about half an hour up north to a quaint little place called Puhoi, where we enjoyed a delicious Devonshire cream tea at one of New Zealand's oldest tearooms, Puhoi Cottage.

Here's Geoff getting ready to devour his scone!

And after enjoying our scrumptious tea and scones, we drove down the road to Puhoi River Canoe Hire to start the canoe trip that we'd booked earlier. There, we were kitted out with canoes (we booked 2 singles, a double and a 3 person canoe), paddles, life vests and some instructions - and then we were set to go! We did the trip from Puhoi village down to Wenderholm Regional Park, where they fetched us and drove us back to our car in the village.

A pretty church in the village.

Miss Sarah.

A little bridge in the village.

Miss Jessica.

My mom and Geoff about to plunge into the river.

The quiet, tranquil meander downstream.

Love this hill.

Looking (mostly) pleased with themselves at the end of the trip!

We all had a lovely time cruising down the Puhoi River - it's such a great weekend activity to do with your family. The time and direction of each cruise is dependent on the tide so we ended up doing an evening cruise which meant that there was time for us to have our afternoon tea before setting out. It all worked out rather nicely actually, because not only was it not too hot out there at that time, but those enormous scones gave us the sustenance we needed for all that paddling!

Shoo! And I fully expected to be terribly stiff after paddling for two hours like that, but quite surprisingly, I wasn't. I guess that the endless vacuuming, laundry duties and packing/unpacking of the dishwasher have some additional advantages after all. Hahahaha!

  1. This looks peaceful! Your mom looks good in the canoe and Geoff didn't look too sure about his scone - maybe not enough cream!!!
