Wedding: Our Weekend Away In Matakana

For the weekend of the wedding, our families booked into Riverside Matakana, a lovely resort just a short distance from Plume restaurant, where the wedding was held.

We rented three units right next to each other and the set-up provided both privacy for each family and the togetherness we wanted for our weekend away. Win-win.

As I mentioned yesterday, Colleen and her bridal party spent the afternoon getting ready in one of the units which was wonderful because it meant that we got to witness and be part of all the excitement and festivities. It also allowed the children to flit in and out as they wished, in between playing outside.

It just so happened that it was harvesting time on the weekend that we were there which meant that many of the owners of the units were out picking grapes in the vineyards. But even though many of the units were occupied, the resort still evoked a feeling of calm, quiet and tranquility.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore the Matakana/Omaha area. The bach we rented, slept six people, and had two bathrooms. There is also a big open-plan living area which includes a lounge, dining room/kitchen and study area. The many windows allow one to appreciate the beautiful surrounds, and there is a sliding door off the living area that leads to an outside seating area overlooking the lawns and beyond.

On Saturday morning we went to the Matakana market in town for breakfast;  and to stock up on some delicious goodies for the rest of the weekend. We love this market and have a few firm favourites that we enjoy every time we're there: bacon and egg rolls, whitebait fritters, oysters, churros, berry smoothies, pain au chocolates, ciabatta loaves and coffee!

If you've never been to Matakana or perhaps you have but would like to see a comprehensive list of interesting things to do out there: check out the Riverside Matakana website for the wide range of activities on offer there and in the surrounding areas. There are still so many things we'd like to do out there.

We took Luke and Sarah's bicycles with us, and they had great fun riding around on the roads in the resort. Our kids loved the wide open spaces there; and the resort pool was a big hit with them as well.

Please note that I have not been paid by Riverside Matakana to write this post.
