November 2017 Little Things

Hello, November 2017! (Yes, I'm still slowly getting through these "Little Things" posts and playing catch-up...)

A while back I wrote this post about a friend of mine's new range of swim and workout gear. I bought this full-piece (see below) which Sarah promptly grabbed to use for a little photo shoot at our pool. I love that velvet one-piece! And that cute girl.

November was a busy school month for Luke. He had athletics day and I got to see him run an awesome 100m sprint, leap a long distance in the long jump, run in a relay final and compete in a hurdles event too. It was a fun day.

In November, Luke also went off on his Year 8 Venture Camp - a 4-day camp that saw them walking 60kms along some beautiful coastline up North! And having lots of fun along the way. Boy, was that guy tired when he got home! But also brimming with a huge sense of achievement and sporting a newfound confidence. What a remarkable adventure for those kids. Below is a photo of him carrying his 9kg pack to the bus before they set off. They had to carry their own packs all the way on that hike - and I'm sure that 9kgs got heavier and heavier the further he walked.

I got this blurry photo of my Kingfisher bird. He is a frequent visitor to that exact spot on our fence. Such a beauty.

November also saw Jess trying out a temporary pink hair dye. It was definitely temporary as it only ended up lasting for one wash and a sea swim! But fun while it lasted, I guess.

Luke also had his Year 8 Leavers' Dinner back in November. And what an amazing evening that was. It was held in a large banquet room at Eden Park rugby stadium and included a 3-course dinner and the boys being presented with their Old Boy ties. There was also a fun photo slideshow of their time on Venture Camp.

It was incredible to see how much Luke grew up and matured last year - he learnt so much academically, on the sports field and in personal relationships. There were certainly some challenging times last year, but I'm especially proud of how he got through all those challenges and how much he learnt along the way.

Haircut at the barbershop for Luke:

And back in November, we had our NZ extended family traditional Christmas lunch as we were all jetting off to different locations for Christmas that year. (More about that in a later post.)

We all gathered at Colleen and Sam's place and enjoyed the most delicious treats to celebrate Christmas.

And that was November 2017.
