One day I had a baby and now she's a 20 year old

And I find myself shaking my head in disbelief at how astonishingly quickly these years have flown by! (It seems like only yesterday she turned 19!) It's been a crazy, rewarding, frustrating and joyful twenty years with my firstborn - years filled to the brim with all sorts of wonderful (and some not so wonderful) experiences. I've learnt so much from this child of mine and I've certainly become a better person having her in my life.

Jessica is strong, determined, sociable, fun-loving and much-loved. She enjoys a good chat and debate and is always busy with something or chatting with someone. She's grown up so much in the past few years, developed a good work ethic, and that determination I mentioned? It definitely stands her in good stead. That kid of mine knows her own mind and doesn't give up on anything that is important to her. She knows exactly what she wants and goes after it single-mindedly. I love that about her.

So our cute birthday girl had some friends over last Saturday night to celebrate with her. That kid got into serious party planner mode and organised an awesome party - with balloons, streamers, disposable cameras, sushi platters and doughnuts. Here are a few photos taken just before everyone else arrived:

And the sweetest part? The next day a group of her friends came over to help her clean up. Nice bunch of kids, um, adults.

Happy 20th Birthday, Jessica. Thanks for being such a positive, fun, practical and enthusiastic human. When you laugh, everything is right in the world. Life would certainly be duller without you in it. Love you to the moon and back!
