Want to know more about good Essential oils and win free stuff?

Well, then you're in the right place!

So I haven't ever had a guest post on my blog before today, but I thought I might try something new and branch out into this unchartered territory (for me, anyway). Yeeha! Anyway, I proposed the idea to my friend, Linda and she was immediately up for the task, whipping up this awesome post about something she feels incredibly passionate about - Essential Oils. She did it essentially (sorry, I couldn't help myself) to spread her knowledge and love for essential oils and a brand she believes in and is passionate about, but also to offer you, my readers, a chance to win a giveaway! How cool is that?

So after that little introductory blurb, I'd like to introduce you to my darling friend, Linda:

This dynamic, extremely enthusiastic and eternally positive woman is now going to tell you all about essential oils, how to be discerning when it comes to all the choices out there and how these oils could potentially enhance your life.

Over to you, Linda:

Prior to the onset of modern medicine, oils extracted from aromatic plants played an important role in the well-being of human civilisation.

So, what are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are the volatile organic compounds extracted from various parts of the plant e.g. roots, stems, bark, flowers etc. via a distillation process.  Their purpose is to protect the plant from multiple threats in the environment (e.g. mould, virus, fungi, sun damage) as well as aid in their ability to attract pollinators.

Plants are ubiquitous and are vital for our survival, providing us with food, fuel, fabric, paper etc. and their essential oil has the ability to provide therapeutic support to our own health and well-being.  For example, Lavender essential oil has been used to alleviate depression, insomnia, hay fever and heal wounds and burns.  On an emotional level, these precious oils can lift the mood, soothe and calm the senses, and invigorate our energy levels.

“The art of healing comes from nature, not from the physician. Therefore the physician must start from nature, with an open mind.”
Paracelsus – 14th century, physician, alchemist, astrologer.

And why doTERRA Essential Oils?

As essential oils become mainstream, it’s imperative the purity and potency in the oils are maintained.  doTERRA Essential Oils have partnered with a global network of artisans ensuring that the proper variety of seed is chosen for the desired therapeutic quality, in offering the specific health support. The other factors to consider (which affect the chemical compounds) are location, climate & environment, harvest season as well as the method & distillation process.

One of the most important characteristics of a therapeutic essential oil is the purity.  By not ensuring the purity of the oil, there is a risk to the user:  contamination via additives, germs, and other metals which can cause skin irritations, infections, and hormonal imbalance - all resulting in possible sickness.

The essential oil & fragrance industry does not have any governing body to monitor the quality and subsequent labelling of products.  A little bottle of oil may say “100% pure essential oil”, but how do you really know that to be true?  In this regard, it is imperative when using essential oils in a therapeutic way that you select a brand who give evidence of batch testing and maintain transparency and communications in their operations.

So how do I use Essential Oils?

Essential oils help you build on a foundation of a healthy lifestyle and supplementation - providing the added support on both an emotional and physical level.  The oils are administered aromatically, topically, or can be taken internally as a single oil or in a blend, depending on the users' experience and desired result.

Diffusing oils to release the aromatic scent can aid feelings of clarity, invigoration or peace. For example Lavender (calming); Cedarwood (grounding); Wild Orange (uplifting);  Peppermint (invigorating).

Through diffusion, you are also able to reduce airborne pathogens by purifying the air.

Great Fun Fact: Direct inhaling can be a powerful way of affecting memory and emotions, as the olfactory system (nasal passage) is anatomically closely connected to our limbic system (the part of the brain that regulates emotions).

“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.”
Helen Keller – first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree.

Essential Oils can be applied directly onto the skin and are easily absorbed.  The best form of application is to apply to the area of concern.  A warm compress or massage will drive the oils deeper into the body.

Dilution with a carrier oil is recommended for children and those with sensitive skin. The back of the neck, pulse points and soles of the feet are other quick absorption areas.

Only a trusted, pure, therapeutic grade essential oil should be used for internal consumption.  There is a health risk in using other oils as they may be diluted, adulterated or processed using harmful chemicals.

Pure oils are highly concentrated - 1 or 2 drops is all that’s needed, drop into a capsule to swallow.

Remember to add oils at the end of the cooking process so as to not damage the chemical composition through heat.

Mother Nature, through plant essential oils, provides a powerful support for a balanced physical and emotional health.

Reconnecting with the Earth is a beautiful way to experience the healing qualities of essential oils.  The experience is surprising, it's highly satisfying and intuitively simple and safe.

“Look deep into nature and you will understand everything better.”
Albert Einstein – theoretical physicist
